Making a positive difference
Human Resource management and the development of our personnel is key to Axians UK’s success, and fair pay and equal rights are expected. Axians UK actively implements a range of initiatives throughout our organisation to make a positive difference to people and wider society.
These are some of the specific activities, measures and commitments which we’ve identified that support the UN’s SDG3 – Good health and wellbeing, SDG5 – Gender equality, and SDG10 – Reduced inequalities
Our social focuses
Health and safety
Having a healthy workforce is a high priority for all Axians UK businesses, and managers are closely supported by our Human Resources team to ensure that training, involvement and action is taken to support employee’s health.
Across the business we have first aiders, mental health first aiders as well as fire marshals and we also have a wellbeing team who look out for people and promote good health practices. Each year we have a safety week where we provide further training, and topics in the past have included using fire safety equipment, driver risk management, stretching and relaxation.
Human rights
Axians UK is committed to promoting best practices and ensuring that all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking are eliminated in our organisation and supply chain.
We voluntarily choose to adhere to the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, commit to the VINCI Energies UK&I Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement, and our colleagues are trained on the VINCI Guide on Human Rights.
Employee benefits
Axians provides a number of significant benefits to all employees, including private medical health treatment, a wellness hub providing health and exercise programmes, as well as access to a mental health talk line to name a few.
Training and education
Axians UK encourages the development of all staff and has relationships with a number of schools, colleges and universities in order to provide work experience, internships and paid internships. We also have an ongoing talent recruitment programme employing several graduates each year.
To improve the life chances of young people we also engage with several volunteer initiatives that connect colleagues and educators. Initiatives include inspiring students to join the technology sector, assisting with interview practice and CV preparation.
People development
Axians focuses on employee retention and all managers conduct regular reviews to ensure employees are developing their skills, in line with their ambitions and in support of the business. Development opportunities include technical certifications, apprenticeship schemes and personal development goals. VINCI Energies UK&I has three Talent Programmes that develop graduate trainees, flourishing employees and those identified with leadership potential.
Privacy and data security
We take the governance of personal data seriously and understand the privacy-related responsibilities of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Axians fosters a work environment that empowers employees to use new technology efficiently while not sacrificing the safety and security of data, whether personal, organisational or that of our customers.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Axians recognises many people face barriers to employment, specifically those from disadvantaged groups, prison leavers and disabled. Axians has a robust EDI policy, and colleagues are encouraged and trained periodically to ensure equity, inclusion and representation.
Our recruitment policy is such that we work with recruitment agencies who share our principles, and we adopt a policy of blind CVs where possible.
Local community Investment
Our core value ‘Supportive’ extends beyond looking after each other and our customers. We also seek to support those less fortunate than ourselves. Rather than support one charity however, we look to help those that are meaningful to Axians UK colleagues. This could be doing some fundraising in the office, but also by working with the VINCI UK Foundation.
The VINCI UK Foundation supports projects that promote social cohesion and fights exclusion. Colleagues can nominate a charity they support to take a share of the foundation and give their time to assist with those projects. Since 1967 The VINCI Foundation has helped 67 charities all over the UK and Ireland.
